Flight Test of a Pseudo Ranging Signal Compatible with Existing Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) Ground Stations

Distance measuring equipment (DME) and its military counterpart tactical air navigation (TACAN) has been a cornerstone of aviation navigation since its development in the 1950s. It is still one of the most commonly used aviation navigation aid. However, future airspace will need to accommodate increased traffic levels, more precise operations and autonomous air vehicles which will increase dema...

Air Transporta 67 . Air Transportation System Automation

The air transportation system infrastructure is comprised of communication, navigation, surveillance, and air traffic management systems, and is known as the National Airspace System. This chapter describes the current very high-frequency and high-frequency modes of communication, very high-frequency omnidirectional range, distance measuring equipment, and instrument landing systems for navigat...

Short-range navigation: does it contribute to understanding navigation over longer distances?

A major reason for analysing short-range navigation is that it is relatively easy to record on video tape the details of an animal's behaviour over an area of about a square metre. Frequently, the orientation of the animal's body is revealed in addition to its trajectory through space. This is particularly useful in the study of insect navigation, the subject of the four contributions to this s...

Hybrid APNT: Terrestrial Radionavigation to Support Future Aviation Needs

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Alternative Positioning Navigation & Timing (APNT) program is developing and examining solutions to provide terrestrial based radio-navigation capability that can support Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) even with the loss of GNSS. Two technologies being examined are improved distance measuring equipment (DME) and passive ranging from...

Hepatic Manifestations of Tropical Diseases

HEPATIC MANIFESTATIONS OF TROPICAL DISEASES ‘Tropical diseases’ are the diseases that are prevalent in or are unique to tropical and subtropical regions. The tropical areas, which lie in the zone between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, have a hot climate all the year and have larger volume of rains, which forms an ideal breeding ground for a large number of insect vectors and ...
